The short version
Metronome does not collect, store, or share your personal data on any server. There is no account system, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. Everything you do in the app stays on your device.
1. Information we don't collect
Metronome does not collect any of the following:
- Personal identifiers (name, email, phone number, account ID)
- Device identifiers used for tracking (IDFA, IDFV)
- Location data
- Usage analytics or session data
- Crash reports beyond the anonymous reports Apple provides via TestFlight or App Analytics, which you can opt out of in iOS Settings
- Audio recordings, MIDI data, or any media content
2. Information stored on your device
The app stores the following locally on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. None of this leaves the device unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync (see Section 4):
- App settings (selected theme, sounds, latency calibration, BPM, time signature)
- Practice log entries (date, duration, tempo)
- Streak and goal-tempo tracking
- Setlists you create
- Custom click sounds you import
You can delete all of this data at any time from All Settings → Delete All Data. The deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
3. Permissions we request
Microphone
Used by the built-in tuner to detect the pitch of your instrument in real time. Audio is analyzed on-device and discarded immediately — nothing is recorded, stored, or transmitted. The microphone is only active while the tuner screen is open.
Bluetooth
Used to connect to Bluetooth MIDI devices for clock output and external control. Metronome does not scan for or connect to non-MIDI Bluetooth devices.
Local Network
Used by Ableton Link to discover and sync tempo with other music apps and devices on the same Wi-Fi network. Metronome does not transmit any data to the public internet via this permission.
4. Optional cloud sync
If you enable iCloud sync, your setlists, practice log, and settings are synchronized across your own Apple devices using Apple's iCloud infrastructure. The data is stored in your private Apple ID container, encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple. The developer of Metronome cannot access this data, and no third party is involved. If you disable iCloud sync, the data remains on the device where you created it.
5. In-app purchases
Pro features and tip-jar purchases are handled by Apple's StoreKit. Apple processes the transaction; the developer receives only the standard receipt (anonymous purchase confirmation). Metronome does not see your payment details, name, or Apple ID.
6. Children's privacy (COPPA)
Metronome is suitable for users of all ages and does not knowingly collect any personal data from children under 13. Because the app does not collect personal data from any user, no special children's data flow exists. If you believe a child has somehow provided personal data to us, please contact us and we will confirm there is nothing to delete on our side.
7. Your rights under GDPR and CCPA
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or California, you have rights to access, correct, delete, and port your personal data, and to object to or restrict processing. Because Metronome does not collect or process personal data on any server, the practical answer to all of these is the same: there is no server-side record of you.
- Right of access and portability. All of your data is stored on your device, where you can view it in the app at any time.
- Right to erasure. Use All Settings → Delete All Data in the app. The deletion is immediate.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal data, period.
8. Third-party services
The only third party involved in Metronome is Apple: App Store distribution, StoreKit purchases, and optional iCloud sync are all provided by Apple and governed by Apple's privacy policy.
No other third-party SDK, server, analytics provider, or advertising network is integrated into the app.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the "Last updated" date at the top will be revised and a summary of the change will be added to a new section here. Continued use of the app after a policy change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
